G.I. Joe "Charbroil" Action Figure (Hasbro 1987)
Item #10698R1A002S3P5
| G.I. JOE "CHARBROIL" ACTION FIGURE |
Code Name: Charbroil Mission Role: Flamethrower Primary Military Specialty: Flame Weapons Specialist Secondary Military Specialty: Armorer (Small Arms) File Name: Shannon, Carl G. Serial Number: 247-40-4109 Birthplace: Blackduck, Minnesota Grade: E-4
As a childhood chore, Carl Shannon was made to heat the water pipes in the family basement with a blowtorch to keep them from freezing and bursting in the winter. As a teenager, he worked in the mills on the Great Lakes feeding coal into blast furnaces. When the recruiting sergeant asked him what type of job he was interested in, he replied, "What have you got with open flames?"
"Flame weapons are scary to the max. Why do you think he wears that asbestos suit? The tank on his back is full of jellied gasoline. Know what happens if a hot tracer round hits that? You wanna be standing next to him? For a flamethrower specialist, he's a pretty nice guy, but with that thing on his back he isn't going to win a popularity contest in the middle of a firefight."
Includes these factory-sealed accessories:
- Removable insulated oxygen helmet
- Flamethrower
- Flame-retardant hose
- Pressurized thermochemical backpack
Condition: Mint figure and accessories sealed in a clear plastic display bubble on near-mint C8 backing card. Dated 1987 but listed in collector guides as a 1988 series figure. Original toy store price tag is still intact. The upper display bubble containing the helmet accessory seems to have been slit on the left side and a second identical helmet was inserted; this is how the figure came off the toy store rack 20 years ago, so it may be a variant or just a strange oddity.
